Hi, I'm Simon from Box Smart. I'm an Amateur Boxing Association qualified boxing tutor. Today I'm going to go through some boxing techniques with you.

For more information visit our site; Boxing-Classes dot net. Right, this is how to throw a hook. From your set position again, we're going to start off by throwing a hook with our lead hand.

This is a close-up shot. What I want you to do is as you come around into this position, palm's facing downwards, elbow the same level as your shoulder. If you can have your elbow at 90 degrees, this is for a close range hook, so here, watching the upper part of my body there, rear hand protecting my head at all times here.

From my hip movement here, as my shot comes around, my hip travels in a circular direction there. Trying to keep my elbow bent the whole time. Then my foot turns as well, allowing my hip to come all the way around, my shot finishing here, through the opponent here.

This is a lead hand hook. If you were throwing the hook from a little bit of a further distance away, a rangier hook, you would just bend your elbow slightly less because your target is obviously further away. Again, rear hand protecting your head.

Same hip movement. Turning here allowing your shot to finish through your target. Foot turning allowing your hip movement to come through.

Again, from here. Close hook. Elbow in line with your shoulder, palm facing downwards, and then a little bit of a rangier hook from here, elbow not quite so bent.

That's how to throw a lead hand hook. .
