Chair Massage, Part III
Stretching and massaging techniques for the neck area are demonstrated by our massage therapist from massagenerds.com using a massage chair.
Step 1: Sit Up
Some of the stretching techniques and even massage techniques for the neck area, you can actually have them sit up so it's a little more comfortable. So ask permission to actually place your palm on the forehead, and you can actually get right into each side of the occipital ridge; a big area for headaches. Again watch your reactions, and make sure it's not too much pressure.
And you can even massage the shoulders in this position too. Ths works really nice, and can even separate the traps here.
Step 2: Shoulders
You can also use your forearms and lean down and stretch out the shoulders.
The next massage technique is that you can actually kind of cup your hands and just bring it back, especially if people are into the shoulder where its rotated like this.
Cross your hand as iluustrated in the video, but whatever side you perform it on, make sure to do the same massage technique on the other side too.
Step 3: Stretching
But with stretching, make aure that you are slow in, maintain the massage, and then be slow out. Usually you should hold the stretch for 10 -30 seconds.but it really depends on what they want in those areas.
In this massage technique, you can also rotate the head a little bit too. You can press the opposite side so you can either rotate a little bit again slowly, or just do a slightly different stretch as illustrated.
Then you need to stretch out the sternocleidomastoid, galines, the inner scapula, all those areas.
