Chanda-Leah, The World's Smartest Dog - Part 2
How do you train the world’s smartest dog? Sharon Robinson shows you a few ways that she’s taught the amazing Chanda-Leah trick after trick after trick – over a thousand in all! Chanda-Leah made a fan out of Letterman, and she’s sure to turn your head, too. Watch a sampling from the repertoire of the most intelligent dog you’ve seen captured on camera, Chanda-Leah!
Step 1: Teaching your dog.
Most dog owners have problems just teaching their pooch to sit. Sharon Robinson doesn’t have that problem. She has trouble keeping track of all the tricks her dog knows how to do.
Step 2: Sorting the mail:
Chanda-Leah holds the world record for the most tricks performed by a dog; over a thousand.
I want you to hit the red lights.
Chanda plays the piano and sorts the mail.
Step 3: Chanda even gets tissues.
She even fetches tissues when Sharon has to sneeze
Thank you Chanda, good girl.
Mrs. Robinson decided to let The Pet Report in on some of her training secrets.
Step 4: Putting coins in the piggy bank.
Recently Chanda was on the David Letterman show and her trick was going to a purse, unzipping it, getting a coin and putting it into a piggy bank. When Chanda knew “fetch” and “bring it to me” and “bring it back,” then I had a glass for her. “So Chanda, now I want you to get the coin and I want you to put it in the glass.” Then it just progressed to a piggy bank with a regular sized hole. “You get the coin, get it to me, put it in the piggy bank.” Good Chanda.
Step 5: Most dogs can do 50 tricks
Most dogs have a repertoire of about 50 tricks, Buddy here likes to lick his lips, so I attached the words “are you hungry” with that and then I rewarded him with a treat. Now when I ask Buddy “Hungry?” He licks his lips and he gets the treat. Keep in mind poodles are a very smart breed and Chanda is a rarity. She is also very food motivated which makes training a lot easier.
Step 6: Keep your pet happy.
While you may not reach Chanda’s level with your dog, teaching your dog tricks is a great way to build a bond and keep your pet happy.
