Crochet Popcorn Stitch

www.craftmastery.com Detailed demonstration on how to make a crochet popcorn stitch.

Step 1: The Technique

I'm going to do a small demonstration of how to make a popcorn stitch. I've just crocheted three rows of double crochet. Starting the next row with a three chain. One double crochet into the next stitch, and then one chain.

Now we are going to start the popcorn stitch. I'm going to miss one double crochet, and into the next stitch, I am going to work five double crochets. That's two, three, four, and five. When I finish the five, I am going to take my hook out of the loop, put it into the one chain, then pick up the loop again, and pull it through.

Step 2: Repeat The Steps

Now you can see we've made a little popcorn stitch which is raised. One chain, I'm going to miss a double crochet. One double crochet into the next two stitches. One chain, and again I am going to repeat. Miss one, and into the next stitch I am going to work five double crochets. That's two, three, four, and five. Again, take your hook out the loop, into the first chain. Pick up your loop again, and pull it through. Now you can see, you're making a raised stitch.

Step 3: Double Crochet

We are going to do one more to show you. Another double crochet, and another double crochet. One chain, and again we are going to do five double crochets into the next stitch. Take your hook out your loop, into the first chain, and pull it through. One chain, and we are going to do one double crochet into each of the last two stitches.

Step 4: Other Techniques

Now I just remembered, that this stitch has a right and a wrong side so you are going to do exactly the same if you turn your work and you want to work back, working on a flat surface.

This is fine if you are working in motifs in squares, so you are going to go round and round, or on a doily, if you are working in a circle. Because of the raised work, it's if you wanted to do a garment or a blanket with this on, you would have to do another row back of other double crochets and then start your next row and do some popcorn stitches again.
