DIY Green Lamp - Never Needs Batterys !

In today's world technology isn't always a fix, sometimes you can go retro. Like this cool lamp that can be made for $1 and runs for 8 hours. In today's world technology isn't always a fix, sometimes you can go retro. Like this cool lamp that can be made for $1 and runs for 8 hours.

Step 1: Introduction

I'm going to show you how you can make a cool oil lamp at the cost of only one dollar. The only thing you need now is a glass bottle with a metal cap and some cooking oil.

Step 2: Making The Oil Lamp

Remove the metal cap off the glass bottle and fill it full of cooking oil. Take the cap and poke it with your scissors. After you made a hole through it, take some scrap cotton, cut it one centimeter wide and about five centimeters long, and then pull them through the metal cap.

Make sure you leave one centimeter out. Put everything back in the glass bottle with the oil inside, screw it back on, and you have a lamp. It can burn up to 10 hours, depending on how much oil you use. It's very efficient, and you can always rely on it.

Does it produce soot from the flame due to the oil ? If so I would only use it outside.

Great job saves money instead of having to buy an oil lamp. Great for when the electric goes out. I seen these made alot of times before.

This is used in most rural areas especially in third world countries.

You're like MacGyver! You're right, it is efficient. Last week I was just looking at the kind of flashlights that you either shake or crank. I live in Florida and June 1st started hurricane season. This is a great idea for a steady light. A lot of people seem to wait until the last minute to purchase hurricane lanterns and oil lamps.
