I'm going to show you how to make an easy ginger bread recipe. I'm going to use the dough to make some ginger bread people but you could use the recipe to make any ginger bread biscuits. So, the first ingredient I'm going to combine is the sugar.

This is the soft brown sugar. What I'm going to do before I mix it with the butter is actually just check for any lumps in the sugar. This type of sugar tends to have a quite a lot of lumps.

So, I will bash it with my wooden spoon to get out any of those lumps. And then, I'm going to add my margarine. These have now been combined together.

And again, just check that there are no lumps in the sugar. Then I'm going to add my egg. We also are going to need two tablespoons of golden syrup.

This can now be added followed by the ground ginger. And finally, the last ingredient is the plain flour. And this is where it will form a tougher dough to mix.

Basically, we are after a biscuit dough. I've made the ginger bread dough so I'm now at the stage where I can start rolling out. I have a bowl here of plain flour that will put on the work top.

I'm actually just going to roll a portion of this dough for an example. Once you've made your dough, if it feels a little bit soft just incorporate a little flower on the work top to firm it up a little. It will get more manageable once you've rolled it once and then reformed it again.

It's happy for you to do that unlike pastries. So, just make sure you have enough flower underneath your dough when you roll it out. And roll it to the depth of half a centimeter.

And then, if you use a pallet knife or flat spatula and try dusting it with some flower so it won't stick. If there is breakage, you can always mend it because it will cook in the oven and mend itself. When placing it on the tray, make sure they are not touching so when they expand, they're not touching.

These then will go into the oven for ten minutes at 190. I'm going to take the gingerbread men and ladies out of the oven and what you can see is they start to get a little color around the edges and they are a little firm to touch. They will firm up a lot more if you leave them on the tray for five minutes so leave them as they are for five minutes and then decorate them as you like.
