Easy Gingerbread Recipe

The ladies from Blackheath Bakery show how to make gingerbread with golden syrup, ground ginger, dark brown sugar. You can shape this dough into gingerbread people or just serve as biscuits.

Ingredients

  • 180 g dark brown sugar
  • 120 g margarine
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 1/2 tbsp ground ginger
  • 300 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

Step 1: Add The Sugar, Butter And Ginger

Combine 175g dark brown sugar and 120g margarine in a bowl. Combine by stirring well. Add 1 large egg and 2 tbsp of golden syrup to the bowl. Then add 2.5 tbsp ground ginger, 300g plain flour and 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda. Mix again.

Step 2: Roll The Dough

Add some plain flour to your work surface. Add the dough and roll to a depth of about 0.5 cm. Use a pallet knife or flat spatula to cut out your gingerbread shape. Add to a baking tray.

Step 3: Bake The Gingerbread

Place in oven for 10 minutes at 190C. Remove from the oven, leave on the tray for 5 minutes. Decorate with choice of icing/topping and serve.
