Explanation Of Computer Education Versus Certification
Many students want to know which is more important in the IT world, education or certifications. In this show we talk about what you should get.
Step 1: Certificates or a Degree?
Hi, this is Mr. Ford from MrFordsClass.com and Mr. Ford's Guide to the A+ Certification Exam. And we are answering viewers questions here on Ustream and the question is, "when going into the IT industry, is it better to focus on certifications or a college degree?" And the answer to that is, both.
Step 2: Competition is fierce.
If you get certified, and you can get certifications up the yazoo, you can be A+, Net+, MCP, MCDST, MCSE, CCNA, blah blah blah blah blah, certified. But the answer to this question is simply this: We are living in a world today of globalization and competition that has never been seen in the history of mankind. If you just want to have certifications without any formal education, then you are going to hit what we call a glass ceiling. You at best will be a contract worker making maybe twenty five to fifty dollars an hour, which might not seem bad, but you won't get benefits and you will be at the mercy of somebody out there who could fire you at the drop of a hat.
Step 3: Qualifications to get:
With at least an Associates Degree, you can more than double your career opportunities with a Bachelors Degree and computer certifications. Then the sky is the limit. If you want to even make more than the sky, then you get a Masters Degree in the IT world, as well as your computer certifications and you can more or less name your salary.
So the answer to your question out there and this was from Jermichael on Ustream, "Is it better to have IT certifications or is it better to have a college degree?" And the answer is both. The more education you have, the more certifications you have, the more options you have, and the more people will pay for your talents.
Step 4: Stay Tuned:
