i have 180 L rio tank how many fish can i have?
cool
I am new to fishkeeping and seem to be bombarded with conflicting information on different fishkeeping websites. Is it necessary to 'cycle' a fish tank before adding the fish?, how many fish to a 30lt tank? etc etc. I am serious about keeping coldwater fish as a hobby and need to know I am caring fo them properly, so any help would be most gratefully received. Many thanks in advance.
I love how this information persists after all this time! Fish are not two dimensional! You measure the length, but what about the width? Or the height? Some fish have very long fins, should they drag along the bottom because you bought a tank with enough "gallons" but it's only an inch high?
when calculating how many fish you can put in a tank you calculate the projected auldt size of the fish not the current size, eg:if the 5cm fish you have is said to grow to 15cm then it needs to be in a tank with enough spare room to accomadate 15cm of fish
Help please, how many guppy, molly sized fish could I have in my 30ltr biorb, I've been told 10, and told by another up to 16. who's right ?.
according to this guy fish dont grow!!!!!!!
The man is not thinking about how large the fish can grow.
Actually this man is wrong....1 goldfish to 40 ltrs off water is right, how can you tell how big a fantail will grow if you put a 1 inch fish in it wont stay that length all its life, so as i said each goldfish should have 40ltrs off water and he also did the measurements wrong too...you take the width...height....length off tank and divide it by 1000 and THAT is how you will see how many litres you have in your tank. Obviously i dont know about tropical fish as i have coldwater.
This man talks rubbish! Never put fish in a tank withoug doing the fishless cycle, otherwise you put the fish through stress, potential illness and they may die. As for the number of fish in a tank, for tropical 1" per gallon is a very rough rule of thumb, but you need to think of the adult size the fish will grow to. You also need to bear in mind the surface area of the tank, especially fior goldfish and other large fish. Try going to TROPICAL FISH FANATICS forum, www.tropicalfishfanatics.forumsmotion.com. They give some really good advice and help for anyone with a question about tropical or coldwater fish. They have really helped me.
