Golf: Proper Release Of The Putter Head

Do better with this video tip.

Step 1:
-
Putting Drill
-
Hi, and welcome to Par Breakers Golf Academy. I'm Bernard Sheridan, and today we're going to work on a putting release drill.
Now, what we're going to do is set the ball about 6 inches from the hole, and we're going to set up the putt.
-
Step 2:
-
Set-up The Putt
-
The ball is going to be just inside your left heel with your eyes right over the top of that ball. You need to bring the putter back a little bit and release it straight through impact, and that putter is going to end up right over the top of the cup.
-
Step 3:
-
Repeat
-
We're going to repeat this putting drill 3 times from the same distance, which is about 6 to 8 inches from the cup. Always make sure that that putter head releases right over top of the cup. It's almost going to feel like you're pushing the ball to the cup.
-
Step 4:
-
Advanced Practice
-
Now, then, what you're going to do is move back a foot, and you're going to do the same exact putting drill, as if you were back right in front of the cup, and you're going to release the putter 6 inches past the ball, just like we did before.
The only difference is, you're about a foot or two feet from the cup. We're going to pretend the cup is right here; it's just around 6 inches in front of us, and we're going to release that putter head right through impact. Hopefully this will help you out.
