Step 1: Tee up

Tee up as you would for a normal drive. This makes it easy to strike only the lower ball with the club. Then balance the second ball on top of the one on the tee.

Balancing the balls is the most difficult part of the trick.

The key is to place the first ball very carefully, with a dimple right at the top to support the second ball.

Step 2: The set-up

This shot only works with lofted clubs – anything from a 5 iron through to a sand wedge.

With a driver or other club with little loft, the top ball just drops to the ground.

To ensure that the top ball pops up really high, you will need to connect with the lower ball on your upswing.

To do this, take your normal set-up and place the ball forward in your stance, just inside your left heel.

Step 3: The shot

When you play the shot, make sure the club makes contact only with the lower ball.

The shot requires very little power as long as you meet the ball at the start of your upswing. The loft of the club and its upward momentum cause the top ball to shoot up in the air.

The lower ball flies off on a low trajectory and the top ball jumps up nicely into your hand.
