The Idea
-
Until recently, dogs had to rely on good Samaritans to rescue them and identify them by tag or microchip. But a new system promises to stack the odds in the owners favour. It's called the Global Pet Finder.
Global Pet Finder is the world's first GPS location device for pets. It weighs less than 5 ounces and snaps easily onto any pets collar. If your dog runs away, it calls you on your cell phone and tells you where he is.

Other Features
-
Global pet finder is a little more than a Lojack for your dog. Features include a virtual fence which will notify you if your pet leaves a predetermined perimeter. And an environmental monitor that alerts you if your pet's environment gets too hot or too cold.

The Test
-
We wanted to test the device out in the real world so we placed Buddy at an undisclosed location and tried to find him using the pet monitor.
What the device is telling me is that Buddy has left and he's at 3278 NE 192nd Street which is in the vicinity of my building. Let's go find him.
The device worked. We actually found Buddy in the vicinity of my building. You're not going to pinpoint the exact whereabouts of your pet. Odds are you'll find yourself in the same block as your pet.
At $350.00, plus a monthly fee of approximately 18 bucks, the device isn't cheap. But the Global Pet Finder could reduce the amount of dogs that are lost and save a lot of heartache.
