Step 1:

Greyhound Fascinaton
-
Man's fascination with the greyhound goes back thousands of years. Images of greyhounds being used as hunting dogs have been found in the tombs of the Phaoraoh's.

Step 2:
-
Races
-
Of course, greyhounds are known for their speed. Unfortunately, it is this attribute that man has exploited to make money.
Conditions at greyhound tracks are generally poor. The dogs live in cages and have very little human interaction. Fortunately, there are many organizations that help greyhounds find good homes when they retire.

Step 3:
-
Pets
-
I think they make good pets because they are very quiet dogs, they are very sensitive, loving, and kind. They don't bark, they don't bite. They curl up in a little ball and sleep most of the day.
As you're well aware of Buddy here, I can off-leash him most places. He's great on a recall. But when it comes to most greyhounds, like Sammy here, forget about it. Too dangerous.
You see, they're sight hounds and they can see up to a mile away. If they see a squirrel running, that's prey to them and they'll keep on going, and you might never get them back.

Other Tips
-
Here are some other tips. Greyhounds require a lot of T.L.C. This is not a dog for people who work long hours at the office. Contrary to popular belief, they require very little exercise.
A long walk or a short sprint in the backyard is all they really need. Be prepared to invest in dental care. Track dogs can have some serious dental problems due to lack of dental care.

Step 5:
-
Pack Animals
-
They are pack animals. They like to be with other animals. They like to be together. Many people will get more than one greyhound because together, they seem to be happier and do better.
The one thing greyhound owners notice is that these rescued athletes quickly learn to become part of the family.
