A major scale consists of 8 notes, a root note all the way up to the octave. This scale starts with an G and ends with an G.
Starting with G string on the third fret. This is the number pattern of the frets to practise the scale.
3….5…..2…...3…...5…..2…..4…...5
It is good to practise the scale for dexterity and to build up your speed. Also, because the G scale is used a lot. And it's also a great exercise for your fingers. Try doing the scale backwards too.
