Step 1:

Attention Association

Time on your lap. Cuddling up. Cozy, intimate time, he'll associate with reading at the very beginning. You'll always want that snuggly, cuddly time on your lap.
So, it's quite a good idea to read in an intimate environment in the beginning with out too many external noises to distract him. If he associates book time with your attention and your cuddles, he's going to come back for more. That's for sure.

Activity Types

So it's good to play with a book and not worry too much about straight reading. Once you've done that, there are quite a lot of games that you can play and you've already been doing that with him. The noises and so on. Have you tried waving hello to all the animals on every page? Does he like physically moving when he's playing with a book?

Step 3:

Child's Favourite Activities

He actually likes to turn the pages. Does he? And so you don't worry too much about whether he's reading forwards or backwards. That doesn't matter. He just enjoys each page
That's exactly right. Not worrying too much about being formal. Being fluid about what reading means to a baby is very important. You've got to be confident that if he gets on your lap for five minutes and then gets down and runs away, that's fine.
