How Much Massage Oil Should You Use?
Here is a video telling you how much massage oil you should use when performing a massage. With advice from www.Free-Massage-Videos.com, here are some basic principles for classic, Swedish, ayurvedic and deep tissue massage.
Step 1: Measure Each Situation
Many people ask me how much massage oil should they use.
Well there's not one simple recipe that I can give you for everybody but I can tell you how to figure it out.
Every massage situation is unique and depending on factors like skin condition, humidity, location, type of oil and massage style.
The three things that are most important are:
type of oil, massage style and skin type.
Step 2: Type Of Oil
A basic rule for the oil, is the heavier the oil the more you will have to use. I would personally stay away from heavy oils because they have a tendency to become sticky. I like to use pure sesame oil which can be used on all skin types.
Step 3: Massage Style
Regarding the massage style, first of all there are a lot of massage styles that do not require any lubrication with the exception of ayubating massage where you use a lot of broad strokes you will try to keep the amount of oil to a level where you can still grip the muscles.
In deep tissue massage you barely use any massage oil just enough to have a little bit of lubrication so you don't pull hairs or irritate the skin.
Step 4: Skin Type
Regarding skin types, the skin conditions of both the masseuse and the recipient are important.
Dry skin can absorb some of the oil, oily skin might not need much lubrication at all.
Let me also add here that unless you use warm oil in ayubating massage or any other kind of massage style, I would not recommend applying oil straight from the container onto the skin. Mainly because if the oil is cold the recipient will tense up and have a hard time to relax but also because you don't have as much control over how much oil you apply which means it is easier to make a mess.
Step 5: Excess Oil
If you put on too much oil by accident either use a little cloth to take some off or put some on the back of your hand which you can use later on.
If you have too much oil on the recipient the muscles will start slipping and you will not be able to preform the message properly plus it is uncomfortable for the recipient.
