How To 180 Bmx
Pro BMX rider Gareth Wilson shows you how to do a 180 on a BMX bike. Part of a series of videos, including how to Drift, how to do the Fakie, and how to Bunny Hop. Utilize the experience of a 9-year professional BMX rider to learn your way around a BMX!
In this video, you'll be learning how to 180 on a BMX bike.
You're going to need a couple of techniques from the other videos for this one. One, the first one being the Bunny Hop- that's the key to a lot of tricks, is getting the air to do it.
Second one, you're going to need the technique, from the Drift video, of kicking your inside leg out, just to twist the bike. And, the final, for the exit of the 180, you're going to need to learn the Fakie- which you'll find in the other videos. Step One.
Alright, so, for the 180, in the start of it, we're just going to learn how to turn the bike. So, to turn the bike, three little techniques. You just turn, hop, kick.
So walk your pace in if you go faster. Turn the bike, hop, and kick it sideways. So, just to recap that, turn, hop, kick just to get the spin of the bike, starting to turn.
Not doing the full 180 just yet, it's only step one. So turn, hop, kick. Just to get the spin of the bike.
Step Two. Here's the 180, we're going to throw our head and shoulders the way we're going to spin. So again, look where you're going to be going, head and shoulders.
Just so you get, you get the momentum of coming around, and obviously the more you throw your head and shoulders the further you're going to get around. Okay so now we're getting around 180 or thereabouts. When you land you're going to be travelling backwards again, so you're going to be in the Fakie.
And obviously, when you land, get ready to compress your legs like a spring. So, your legs, on a BMX bike, are the suspension, so when you land you compress your legs to absorb the landing, and as you land try and start peddling backwards steadily, just to start entering the Fakie. So, like you did before, throw your head and shoulders around and get ready for the landing.
So. Compress, peddle. I think that was quite fast, I'll do it again. So, back into the 180, get ready for the landing.
Peddle, then around. Okay, Step Four, the final step. Okay, so, we've got the 180, we've got the landing and the entering the Fakie.
Now we need to control it and exit the Fakie. So, 180, control it, and hop around. You can either hop around if it's happening too quick or, if you can hold it better, just skid it around like in the Fakie video.
So hop around, control it, skid it around. And that's how to 180 on a BMX bike.
