How To 50/50 Grind

This video walks you through each step to land a 50/50 grind in skateboarding. The key work here is balance.

This is a 50/50 grind and we're going to be doing this on the quarter pipe. First step is you're rolling up the quarter. You're going to have your foot on the back of the board and your front foot just before the trucks.

As you come up, a little bit of extra weight on the tail will help pick the board up and you're going to pivot around, raising your shoulders the way you turn the board. Just as your trucks get up, you're going to stomp the front down and stand up nice and straight. Hopefully, that will lock your wheels in nice and firmly and you'll feel quite stable.

To go back in, you just apply a little bit of weight to the back and pivot with your shoulders and then, push your front end and roll away down the ramp. Phase one is get your feet in the right place. You have one foot on the tail and one foot just firmly on the front side of the trucks.

As you come up, you're going to use your shoulders and hips to turn the board, to pivot around and, just as you trucks move to the top, stomp the front down and stand up nice and straight to keep your balance. Hopefully, this will lock you into the quarter pipe quite nicely. And to finish off again, just a little bit of weight on the back, lean forward and push your front wheels down and get into transition, lean forward and roll away clean.

Last phase is to try it moving. To refresh what we've done, you've come up the ramp, one foot on the tail. When you get to the top, put a little bit of weight on the back, pivot around and swing your trucks up.

Stomp the front down. Stand up nice and straight to help you keep your balance. And again, a little bit of weight on the back, front trucks back on the transition, lean forwards and hopefully, roll into the quarter.

And that is how you do a 50/50 grind. .
