I am going to give you some tips on how to add volume to your hair. First of all, you need to make sure you use a shampoo and conditioner that's not too heavy. And rinse out the conditioner really, really well.

That's why you don't want any residue left into the hair. I'm going to use different brushes to create a back-combing effect at the root area. This is a brush, and it's just a narrow bristle brush, and you can really create a lot of cushioning and back-combing at the root area.

These brushes are really good for back-combing, as they put less stress on the hair. You can also use larger vent brush, where the bristles are wider apart and you can create more of a fuller effect down the hair, rather than just on the root area. So, I'm going to show you two different techniques on how to basically back-comb the hair.

You take a section, about an inch or just under an inch thickness, and about an inch and a half in width, and you hold that really, really tight. You put your brush in, and you take it right down to the scalp area. Then, you take the brush out.

You never go up and down the hair, because you will just knot it up that way, and you'll never get the knots out, and put the brush back in, right down to the roots and you keep doing this and you just move with it slowly. And you eventually work up the hair shaft slightly. It should create a little bit of volume there.

When you touch that, it should feel like a cushion and you do this a few times. Most people just do this on the crown area. And you can - at the end - you can disguise the knots by just gently brushing the top sections and you smooth out the top area.

And it pays to use a little bit of hairspray at this point as well. But, I wouldn't use a lacquer. I would just use a really mild hairspray, so you can get a brush through there.

If you want more of a looser volume, I would tend to use a brush with wider bristles and you do the same format, you take a section, so thick and you do more of a broader back-comb down the hair shaft. And this will create volume throughout the hair rather than just at the root area. I am going to do all my flexions on the crown area.

It can be quite random, as long as you make sure you take it right down to the roots, and then you work up the hair shaft. And your hair should look a little bit crazy at this point. But, don't worry, we will smooth out the top and it'll look polished on the surface.

Now, what you do is just gently brush the top area. When you brush the top area, you're just really coating the surface of that area. You are not digging deep into the hair and what you are really trying to do is disguise the back-combing now, and you get a lot more fullness in your hair that way.

And that is how you can create a lot more volume in your hair by using the right shampoo and conditioner and the tight brushes to back-comb your hair. |If you want to add volume to your hair to create a fuller style, then this useful little video will help you learn to do two different styles of back-combing, and which combs to use for each.
