How To Adjust A Bicycle Seat

As everyone around you is "going green", you may decide that biking instead of driving would be a great way to help out the environment. This VideoJug film shows you exactly what you need to do to find the perfect bike seat height--now your feet can reach the pedals and you're ready to ride!

Hello, my name is John from On Your Bike in London. I've been a bike mechanic for twelve years. I'm going to show you a few things about bikes, things like saddle height and setting it up so that it's the correct size, and a few maintenance tips as well.

I'm going to show you how to adjust the bicycle seat. There's two ways it releases, this way is quick release, if I undo this lever, then I can adjust the saddle up and down. Or if it's on a bike like this and has a bolt, this one has got an allen key, or you might have a nut holding it.

If you undo that, you can adjust the saddle up and down. How to get the correct height is when you adjust it you want it so when the pedal is at the bottom that your leg is almost straight. So, approximately like that for me.

Then my feet are on the pedal, my leg is almost straight. There's just a slight bend, so I'm using my muscle in my leg, not my knee when I push down. This bike has got a bolt holding the saddle in position.

This one uses an allen key, which fits here, and if you undo that you can adjust your saddle up and down. And then, again in the same position, you want it so your leg is straight or almost straight when you are pedalling. .
