How To Appliqué A Baby Bib

Get creative by adding a touch of applique to your babies clothing. Zoe Edwards, applique expert extraordinaire shows us how.

Step 1: You Will Need

interlining
bondaweb
a template
a bib
fabric scraps
thread

Step 2: Bondaweb

Roughly cut around the template on the bondaweb. Place it rough side down on the back of a fabric scrap and press with a medium cool iron. This melts the adhesive on the bondaweb, sticking it to the fabric.

Carefully draw around the template on the bondaweb, and cut out. A simple design like this lightening flash is good for applique beginners, more complicated shapes and curves will take a bit of practice at the final stage. Peel the backing paper off the bondaweb and position it on the bib. Press again with a medium cool iron, turn the bib over and press on the other side.

Step 3: Interlining

Roughly cut around the template on the interlining, this will be fused onto the back of the bib to stop the fabric from puckering. To know where to fix it pop in a few pins around the design. Place the interlining rough side down on the back of the bib, using the pins as a guide. Press with a medium cool iron to melt the adhesive, fixing the interlining to the bib. Then remove the pins.

Step 4: Sew

Set your sewing machine to a very tight zig zag to stitch around the outside of the shape. Run your machine at a slow steady pace to get a good accurate line. When you have sewn around the entire shape cut away the excess thread and admire your handiwork.
