How To Apply Gothic Eye Makeup

Hello, my name is Karla Barchieri. I'm a freelance makeup artist and today, I'm going to show you a few makeup tips. And now I'm going to show you how to create a gothic eye look.

For that, I have actually thought of a very easy way by using greasepaint. This is because greasepaint is so blend-able until you set it with the eye shadow powder or any other powder. So, I'm going to use this one.

It's from Makeup Forever; they're a delight to work with. So, if you're working with greasepaints, these are the ones to use. Clairol also has a very good palette but I'm going to use these ones to show you.

For gothic eye makeup, my take on it is that you have to make it really sexy although there is some kind of horror involved. It's something that you like; it's like a guilty pleasure. So, we're going to go and put two colors together and we're going to make it scary yet she's going to look really really sexy.

I have decided to apply this strong pink color and this is going to go pretty much all around her eyes. So again, this is what is going to give us that kind of scary side of the eye makeup, because the other bit is going to be a smoky black and on the other side, we go again, the same on one eye as the other. Okay? So, we are going quite randomly all around it.

And now, with your fingers, you can actually smooth this out like so and you're going to see how this actually fades away beautifully, really beautifully. And now, we're going to go and you can set this with translucent powder. You can actually make it more intense by using the same color powder that you have.

In this case, I'm going to use only a translucent powder to set the colour and it's not much that you have to apply, just only put a little bit on your brush, very fluffy brush, and just go around it. Alright, and now I'm going to use black from the same version, from Makeup Forever, and I'm just going to grab this painting brush. And the reason is because I prefer to use painting brushes on greasepaints rather than my makeup brushes.

This is only a matter of my own preference. You can use your makeup brushes with this. The thing is when you're cleaning them, you have to be more thorough really in trying to get this color out and you may just put a little bit of strain on your brushes.

Okay, so again, I'm going to do a smoky eye now. I just go very close to the lash line, very close, and remember this product is so blend-able, so we put on a little bit and it's very very intense and let me put a little bit on the other eye. Okay, so we're going under and smudging a little bit.

Close your eyes please and on the top. Close your eyes. Thank you.

I'm just going to contour her eye on the top and then we're going to go with an eye shadow on top to set this and it's going to be a black colored eye shadow. Close your eyes for me. Okay, and now I'm just going to smudge it a little bit.

Again, you want a little bit of kind of horror in this, just making it look scary at the same time. I'm just going to bring this down. What you're trying to do here is just to make the beginning of the eye very intense.

So for this, I'm winging this down. There's a line, I'm going to kind of follow your nose and you just flick the end to make it sharp, like so. Again, this is just my take on gothic eye makeup.

There are so many designs you can go for and pretty much it is the imagination you can give to it. Okay, now I'm going to get a black eye shadow. It could be metallic, it could be sparkly, it depends on what look you want.

In this case, I'm actually going to use a matte eye shadow, matte black, and I'm just going to go on it to make it really really set, and you just go where you applied the greasepaint and just put this color there. You're just going to matte down what you've just done. Okay, just remember that you are pressing in the color; you're not going to sweep this because it is going to go everywhere.
