Daisies are everywhere in the springtime, and master florist Alexandra Lyons shows how to make a lovely bouquet of gerbers that you can carry with you to brighten everyone's day up.
Hi, my name is Alexandra Lyons, and I'm a master florist. I create floral displays for celebrity homes, events, weddings and special occasions. I'm going to share some tips with you on flower arranging.
I'm going to show you how to do a daisy bouquet. We usually have the orange daisies here. You will need some daisies or some gerbers as they are called in England, some wires, some ribbon and a little tape.
I'm going to tell you how to wire a gerber. Just hold their heads firm because the stems tend to go quite soft. So, you just push the wire into the top of the stem, about, just under an inch, and then you push it slowly until it hits the top.
Try not to make it come through and then you wind it down. This will hold them firm in your vase if the stems start to go. It enables them to drink because if the heads bent over, it stops the water from getting in and the air gets in.
I'm going to wire a few of these up, I'm not going to wire them all, these are very firm, these ones. Your florist will always wire these for you. It's very easy.
I'm using green coated wire here because it will stand out a little. We're going to start off by holding them quite high and placing three in a little group. I'm going to add around the sides, keeping the stems straight and just turning and adding.
Some flowers face one way, that one is facing that way and not that way so that's the way you place it in. Make a little ball of them. There we go.
I'm just going to place a bit of tape around the top. The tie point is quite high to keep it nice and compact. It's very sticky, this tape.
I'm just going in right up high, if I did it down low, it would loosen the bouquet. There we go, that's securely in. Then cut the stems approximately here and some of the wires.
This is approximately, the stem length's approximately two-thirds of the overall design and the flowers are a third. This ensures that the bouquet balances. I'm just going to finish it off with some ribbon.
I'm just going to wind these round a little as well because it's sticking out. I'm going to tie it a little over the bind point so you can't see the tape right at the top there. Make a bow.
Try and make a bow, that's it. We're also going to tie one down at the bottom here. There we go.
Okay, let's move that down ever so slightly, there we go, like that. And this is how you arrange a daisy bouquet. .
