The only time you can wait 7500 miles between oil changes is if you DON'T drive in the following conditions, dusty or dirty area, hot or cold climate, stop and go traffic, any type of towing or hauling. So that pretty much eliminates everyone who uses their car on a daily basis. Change the oil every 3000 miles it's not a rip off especially if you take 30 minutes and learn to do it yourself.

That's why its always better going to a professional dealer than a back street garage. I am a mechanic at a professional dealership and I know for a fact we wouldn't rip the customer off in any of the ways listed in the video. Also, the oil change intervals depend on manufacturer's specification, most cars don't need an oil and filter change any more often than every year or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.

This is very basic info and all of it can be found in your car manual. Usually in the back of the manual it tells you what should be replaced and when. This is a good guide to use but at times things will need to be replaced sooner than listed due to driving habits or region. And if you think that you are being mistreated by a shop then visit another shop before ok'ing a repairs. A good shop will work with you on what REALLY need to be done now and what can wait. The less responsible will be pushy and try to scare you. A mechanic is the doctor for your car, only use one you feel comfortable with. And if you have mechanic friends, ask them where they would go.
