How To Bake A Sweet Potato

Hello, I'm going to show you how to bake a sweet potato. It is probably the easiest thing in cookery that there is. All you do is take a sweet potato, these are available all year around, and provide what I think is a fantastic alternative to a regular potato because they've got a much richer, sweeter texture, as the name would obviously suggest.

All you need to do is, and I've done this in advance, obviously, is to just give it a good old wash, scrub any mud off, because obviously, it's a root veg. Dry it with a bit of kitchen towel. What sometimes happens is the potato explodes if the heat is too high in the oven, but if you just pricked it with a fork, you should be okay.

So that goes, you can rub a bit of olive oil on that if you like, but I'm not going to do that, I'm just going to put it straight in the oven. A potato of that size is probably going to take about an hour on 180 degrees. You know, the larger the potato, the longer the cooking time.

But we'll come back to that later on, for that particular potato, probably about an hour. Well, that's been in the oven for about an hour and a half. Actually, sorry, about an hour.

You just cut it open, there we go. Look at that. Beautiful.

Now, what you can do is add a little bit of olive oil and black pepper, maybe some grated cheese, possibly even some cottage cheese, maybe some chili con carne or a bottle of sauce, and I'm just going to tear that bit off, because for me, the skin is definitely the best bit. But that is how you bake a sweet potato. Shouldn't have done that with my mouth full, but you get the general idea.
