Ham is one of the healthiest dishes there is to eat. If you want your meat to be tender yet well-cooked, Paul Ellis is going to show you how to do it the right way.
A very simple way how to bake a ham. So, we are going to roll a piece of meat, so we are looking at a good half an hour per pound of gamin. So, we are going to cook six pounds of meat, we are looking to cook it for a good three hours.
Very important, take it out and we clean up all the fat from the ham and nice cloves evenly over the ham. We normally put some Dijon mustard over the meat and then obviously brown sugar and honey and that will go through the oven, on about 160 or 180 just to cook my ham. We are giving it a nice little colour as well.
So we'll put the cloves, mustard, we've got the brown sugar and honey, all in there, all dripping off, all ready to be on our ham. Soaking our ham the night before is always a good idea. It drafts out all the salt as well, so we take our ham, we draft all the water, take it out, dry it off, drain the water.
You can put some carrots in as well for more flavour to it, and like I've said, cook it for three hour, we have 6 pounds of meat and just to make sure your meat is cooked is by pushing a fork into in and it slides off, then you know your meat is ready. Again, your oven must be nice and hot, 160-180, steady cloves, your mustard, your brown sugar, your honey, it will caramelize your meat. And that's how I bake my ham. .
