How To Be A Good TV Presenter
An experienced television host shares some tips of the trade and explains the basic skills that make a presenter good at their job.
How to be a good TV presenter. I've been a TV presenter for over ten years, obviously in the UK, on lots of different networks and I've presented lots of things, from car shows, dating shows, to game shows. And I can tell you, if you want to be a good presenter, you need to have researched.
You need to know exactly what you're talking about and you need to also listen if you're interviewing. So you need to have a lot of skills. Being a good presenter is about confidence.
All presenters and models have egos, so it's about enjoying it, loving the experience, and of course, being entertaining. A good TV presenter is somebody that's very natural on camera, somebody that doesn't have a problem communicating, and somebody that gets the message across, because at the end of the day, whatever you're presenting, there is information you're trying to give the audience. So for instance, when I was doing the car show, it was all about personalized number plates, so we would interview celebrities on their private plates.
Why did they buy them? What are the most expensive plates? So there's always information, where you're informing the public. Being a good presenter is really just about enjoying yourself, not being rehearsed, not being fake, listening to other people if they're on set with you, and enjoying the experience and just being as natural as you possibly can do and don't worry if you mess it up, because if it's live TV, you can say, "Oops! Did I just do that?" or "What's my producer saying to me now?" You can always make a joke of things, if things go wrong. It's how you deal with things.
But good luck. And there are lots of ways to be a good presenter, but it's about you, just being yourself on camera. Good luck. .
