How To Be A Triple Threat In Basketball

The triple threat position is one of the basic fundamentals of basketball. From the triple threat position, a player can pass, drive or shoot the basketball. The triple threat also allows you to see the floor and to spot the weaknesses in the defense. Follow these steps from NBA veteran Tracy Murray to be a triple threat in basketball.

Step 1: Keep Them Guessing

The triple threat position is the fundamental offensive position for someone with the basketball. Hold the ball on your hip so that you are a threat to dribble and drive, shoot, or pass to a teammate. Keep your body square to the basket so that you can see the entire floor while paying attention to what the defense is doing. Keep your weight on your pivot foot so that can pivot around to avoid a defender trying to slap the basketball away from you.

Step 2: Choose Your Threat

Based on what the defense shows you, you can decide what to do with the basketball. Before doing anything, you should usually use a pump fake or jab fake to make the defense think you are going the opposite direction.
