By following these detailed instructions, you can take the simple game of darts and turn it into a serious sport.
The game of darts has been played for many, many years around the world and indeed is one of the most popular past times and social games that has ever been invented. I've always maintained, if you've got a set of darts in your pocket, you're not going to be a stranger for very long. Find a dart board and people will invariably come up and challenge you and you make new friends that way.
The game is played in various forms, as I said, right over the globe. The most common game is 501 down where you throw at the board, score as many as you can as quickly as you can and finish the game by hitting a double. Each throw is made using three darts and it's a very precise game.
You need to be throwing at a dart board which is exactly 5 foot 8 inches off the floor to the center of the bull and 7 foot 9 and a quarter inches away from you. May not seem very far but when you're throwing a very small pointed object into a very small target, 7 foot 9 and a quarter seems a long way. The game is played on an individual basis where you're against an opponent, alternating shots or as a team.
There's really no limit to what you can do with a game of darts. As I said earlier, it's a tremendously social game. Now, here we are at the dart board, taken a throw, and managed to score 100.
The scoring face of the board is quite simple. The outer ring counts double the value. The inner ring counts as triple the value, and in between is just single value.
Here, I've got two single 20's and a triple 20, making 100. If you look at the face of the dart board, to make things even more difficult and precise, whoever invented the dart board as we know it today, was quite a fiendish person. Next to every big number, there's a small number on both sides, usually 19, 3, 7, 5, 1, 20 in the middle, 4, 1, 18 in the middle.
It's all there for a purpose and, believe me, it gets very frustrating sometimes but if you practice really hard. We'll be talking about practice later on. You can take this game from being a very, very fun past time.
You can turn it into an extremely serious competitive sport at the top end. Last but not least, right in the middle of the board, the bull's eye. Counts 50 points and the outer counts 25.
It's also a double. A bull is double 25 so you can finish a game on the bull's eye. And that's how to play darts. .
