Hello, I'm Sarah Lloyd-Hughes from Ginger Training and Coaching, and today I'd like to give you a bite-size coaching technique on personal development. If you would like any more information about my self or my company, please visit go-ginger.com.

Hello and welcome in. Here's a guided tour on how to increase your motivation where I'll talk you through some techniques that has benefited thousands of people. Now, explaining the whole of this topic is a pretty tall order for such a short video, so I'll show you as much as I'm able to here and at the end of the video, I'll invite you to find out more about my Staying Motivated coaching program.

So, what is motivation? Think of motivation like a journey, your motivation is your drive towards a certain end point. At the end of your pathway is a goal or a dream. Many people fall down on motivation because they don't know what they should be motivated towards.

So, the first element of being motivated is to figure out what your dream is. What has to happen in your life that's more important than anything else? Once you've figured out that, you'll feel very motivated to get there. I'm sure you've experienced someone being “on a mission” before and you noticed how determined, how focused and how motivated they are.

That's because of a strong dream that they have. But often, we crash back down to earth when we realize that we “can't” do what we wanted to do or that we have other things in life that we “should be” doing instead of “have to” do instead. These cant's, should's and have-to's are all the signs of something I'd like to call the saboteur or the gremlin, an inner doubt that can be paralyzing if you don't recognize it and wave it goodbye.

So, step 2 is to make friends with your saboteur. To do that, ask yourself when does my saboteur show up? What does he or she say? What effect does that have on my behaviour? And what can I do in the future to bypass my saboteur? Then, once you are en route to your dream, saboteur pushed firmly aside, expect habits and beliefs to show up from time to time that may slow you down or restrict your success. Get though these and you'll stay motivated for good.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this video, Ginger Training and Coaching runs a Staying Motivated Program specifically designed to help professionals learn the tools to keep them on track and motivated. It's difficult to do it on your own, so I'd encourage you to pop by go-ginger.com and I'd be happy to tell you some more. .
