How To Be Your Own Boss
The key to being your own boss is learning how to manage not only your time, but your mindset as well. Be the person you want other people to be by setting an example.
Now, boss doesn't necessarily mean that you need to be employing staff. You can be a boss of yourself. It's really about you, learning how to manage your time and looking at how you want to turn out.
Now, when you're a boss and effectively own your own business, whether you're self-employed or whether you've got a team underneath you, you really want to get clear and have a strong vision of where you're going. What are your goals? What do you want to achieve? Not just on a daily basis, but over a period of time, sort of three months, three years. It's really about you looking at how am I using my time effectively? How am I motivating and inspiring myself, as well as others around me? Do I have the right tools to make sure I'm going to be successful? Now, it doesn't mean you won't have moments where you're frightened or you fail and you really have to learn to motivate yourself to get going again.
It's really about looking at, do I have as much as possible in place to insure that my chances of success are a lot higher than those around me? Being your own boss is really about managing things. Not just managing your time and managing your resources, but it's also about managing your mindset. Am I showing up everyday in the right mental state? Have I made sure that I'm really on track in terms of where I want to be focusing my energy? Do I know how to get the best out of people? If you're working with a team, you really need to know how to get the best out of them.
Do I have a clear business plan? This is really about putting everything in so that you can be the best you can be so those working with you can look up to you and think that's how I want to be. That's how I'd like to run my business. It is also about you finding somebody that you can really look up to.
Somebody who's your mentor, who can help keep you on track, whether it's a coach, a colleague, another business owner, somebody else within the organization. A boss isn't really about telling other people what to do. It's really about being the person that you want other people to be, showing them how it's done, setting that example.
If you've got all of that in place, then you'll tend to find that it's a lot easier to manage other people, their state, and their energy, and to get the results that you really, really want.
