Hello! I'm Sherridan Hughes. I'm a career consultant with career analysts. I'm going to talk to you today about how to get into various careers.

Health and safety advisers work in companies or consultancies and work on preventive and remedial measures to try and prevent accidents, health issues in the workplace. So they will also be looking to ensure that the organization is complying to health and safety legislation. But they will record or document any kind of incidents or accidents where there have been emergencies or accidents or problems of any kind.

They will perhaps sometimes need to represent the company in court and to put forward the legal case if there ever is in instant or an issue to defend themselves. Training is on the job. There are though various masters courses.

People used to lean onto it coming from other fields or from a background in science or engineering but is becoming increasingly a career in it's certain right. There are masters courses in occupational safety and health. Obviously it's going to involve more challenges to physical health but also mental health issues.

There will be training on the job and usually some short courses and various studies towards relevant physically fit again because you will need to be going to look and investigate the sources of accidents and you need to be able to understand the various mechanical and production processes as well in order to cover good insight as to how things are working, when and what the risks might be. People skills are very important because you may have to be parted to various meetings, health and safety meetings, you need to convince people to follow the health and safety legislation and again this can sometimes involve negotiating with managers or production managers who find the various precaution restrictive or the employees who don't like to wear their hard hats or goggles or whatever the health and safety legislation says they should be wearing. So negotiation, tact, motivating people is important and also very offending health and safety adviser is responsible for running training courses in time will be as well.
