How to become a history teacher? So, if you're thinking about becoming a history teacher, you obviously have a passion for history. This is going to be really important because you are going to be inspiring children every single day about the world's previous hours. There are lots of real advantages of becoming a history teacher.

You often get to go on a lot of really good school trips and looking at different places, potentially travelling into other countries, perhaps other areas like post World War I, etc. which do provide a really interesting career opportunity. So, in order to become a history teacher, you will need firstly a degree that's probably the most important thing and again, most likely, you're going to head for a history degree.

But any degree really is relevant as long as it includes history within it. Once you've got your degree, you most likely will go on and do a postgraduate certificate in education and many universities offer this postgraduate certificate which then allows you to teach in schools providing you with QTS or qualified teacher status and really importantly, a small qualification but one that really counts is your GCSC's. To be a teacher in the UK, you do need GCSC English, Math and Science grades C or above so you don't forget to make sure you've qualified in those two.

And then, you can start looking for your history position and then you'll be teaching the national curriculum in history. Although you may have looked at a specific area of history in your degree, in your teaching, you will actually be teaching a wide range of historical areas from real ancient history right through to modern history which are all part of the national curriculum. That's really taught across most schools so you should be fairly familiar when you start your job.

And that's how to become a history teacher. .
