How to become a music teacher? So, probably the most important thing in order to become a music teacher is that you do need to be a musician. You need to have a good knowledge and skills of playing an instrument and that can be any sorts of instrument. It's quite common for music teachers to play the piano although this isn't necessarily a requirement.
If you're thinking about becoming a music teacher in a school and actually teach in the national curriculum, then you will need to follow all the qualifications in order to become a teacher. So, you will apply GCSC in English, Maths and Science, grade C or above, a degree and then a postgraduate course qualification or at least a qualification that gives you QTS or qualified teacher status. This will allow you then to use your music skills to actually be teaching in schools.
You may however choose to use your music skills to perhaps teach in a different way. Most schools in the UK employ teachers or instrumental tuition, one to one or small groups within the school. It's a quite competitive role so you will need to be quite a strong player and have a good knowledge in order to be able to teach.
But there are options definitely and the best place to look for these jobs is through your local authority in your area or perhaps you might want to go into private tuition and again perhaps just through advertising privately or through an agency, you may be able to obtain private pupils and then teach instrumental tuition.
