How To: Bed Bug Removal

In this video, you are given steps to take before you have a professional exterminator come in and spray for bed bugs.

We're going to talk about how to get rid of bed bugs. The stuff that you need to get rid of bed bugs is usually going to be a chemical and it's not something that you can just go out and buy of the shelf. It's something that you're going to need to call in a professional to deal with.

When we come into a property to deal with bed bugs, there are a few things that you can do as a homeowner in preparation for that treatment. Now, first thing you can do is strip the bed because we can't spray bedding and we can't spray sheets or anything that's going to come in contact. Now, ideally, you'd want to bag it up in the room.

Don't just carry it downstairs or carry it to another room. Bag it up in the rooms so you're not spreading the problem around. Put it through on a hot wash.

Also, read the label instructions. But, you need this to be treated, it needs to be stripped. Okay? If you've got stuff under the bed like we've got here, if there's clothes under there, if there's shoes under there or books, again, that all has to come out because we can't spray it.

Some beds have got solid base, what we call a divine base. If it's got drawers in it, you'd need to open them up, empty the drawers because they need to be sprayed inside. So, we'll take the drawers out, spray the drawers.

And then, again, spray the frame. So, we've gotten rid of bed bugs. We then work our way around the room, spraying any bedside furniture, around frames, around wardrobes.

Again, you need to empty your wardrobe, take the clothes out and put them through the wash. If ever you get your home treated, if they don't tell you what you should do, but don't go back in that room until it's completely dry. So, if you've got pets, again, you need to exclude them from the room.

Once it's dry, you can go back in. Totally safe, you can do what you like but while it's wet, you must stay out of the room. And that's how we would remove bed bugs. .
