How To Begin Shot Put Training
Shot put is one of the oldest sports still practiced, and was one of the events in the first modern Olympic Games. In this Videojug guide Claire Spurway, athlete and professional personal trainer, talks you through some training drills and some technique work.
- In all three of these drills you should push through with your legs and extend the hips to get the maximum power into your throw.
- In the starting position you should hold the shot put with your fingers close into the neck, stretch your feet out wide with your back leg bent down, and face towards the back of the net.
- From the starting position you twist round quickly, leading with the elbow, launching the shot up at about 45 degrees.
