Hello, My name's Andrew Jose, of Andrew Jose salon in Charlotte Street, London. How to Blow Dry Afro Carribean hair. Today I'm here with Sunny, who is one of the senior stylists at the Andrew Jose salon in London.
And you're going to take us through. Now, preparation is everything, isn't it Sunny. So you're going to start off with, first of all, a little bit of JLife SOS leave in conditioner, so right the way through the hair.
Now, afro carribean hair is generally very fine hair, and it's very soft. It has to be prepared a little, so what we've done is to soften the hair, with a pre relaxer which just makes it easier to blow dry into a smooth style. There you can see the difference between the very tight curl, which is just from the root, and then the more gradual and the smoother hair through here.
So Sunny, you're an expert in this, what's the next step? - OK, we need the brush. So we have different brushes. This is just to make her hair smooth, it's called a pepper brush, and there are two different types, this is for the strong afro hair that doesn't use texturiser,so really strong, thick, curly afro hair ,and this one is for the softer hair like hers.
She had the texturiser before, and hers is quite soft and thin, so I'm going to use this brush. - Ok , so you start at the bottom. The hair's really quite wet isn't it? - Yes, the key point is to start the blow dry when it is completely wet because afro hair does dry really fast.
Without the water in the hair it goes really frizzy. So taking sections of about a cm? - Yes, a cm or cm and a half - In diameter, and then really pulling in, all very tightly, getting that root really smooth, and then always keeping the drier pointing down the hair shaft, just as smooth. Now just have a look at this section, and then we'll make a drop and have a look at the back when it's finished.
So here we are at the final stages of the blow dry, the hair is pretty smooth right the way through. It had the straighter head serum and the SOS leave in conditioner, which has prepped the hair beautifully and you can see the deep shine through it. Now the final stage is for Sunny to go through with the very tight bristle brush that we saw before, which will give that super gloss, super glass like perfect finish to afro carribean hair.
Fantastic- let's have a look. Beautiful! .
