How To Blow Dry Thick Hair
Blow drying thick hair can be quite a challenge. Learn how to blow dry thick hair in this video tutorial from a London hairstylist!
Hi, I'm Edward Hayes. I'm a hair stylist at Andrew Jose Hair Salon in London. Ok, when it comes to blow drying thick hair, you have to take into account what type of product you're going to use and what sort of result you want to achieve at the end.
Today, I'm actually going to make it look quite bouncy. So the first thing I'm going to do, my model here, Lyell, she has quite frizzy hair so we're going to use something just to take the frizz out and also something to smooth it. So I'm going to use the JLife In-control mousse, and I'm going to use the Sunset Sapphire from the JLife range, that's from the styling range.
So generally make sure that you take most of the water out of the hair when you're blow drying, and spread the product evenly through the hair. With thick hair, you have to take into account that when you're blow drying thick hair, it's better to try and get a wider brush than a smaller brush, depending on what sort of style you're trying to achieve. You can get the person who does your hair, your hair dresser, to talk you through the brushes and the stuff they use in your hair when they're doing your hair.
I mean a good thing to do is to speak to the hair dresser who does your hair and ask them for advice on anything when you're blow drying and what products they use just so you can sort of mimic that and do it yourself. A key thing when you're blow drying thick hair is to break it down into smaller sections, the reason being obviously is because there is more hair to deal with so it's easier for you to have lesser hair to blow dry. So just take a finer section, clip the rest of the hair out of the way so it's a bit easier for you to work with.
Another thing with thick hair, depending on how coarse your hair is, generally it likes to hold on to water a bit more than finer hair. So you should spend a bit more time rough drying it but still leave a little bit of water in the hair. Generally with thick hair, people like to soothe it with a serum.
I'm just going to mix two products together, I'm actually going to use a serum and a shine spread. If you're going on a night-out, I would say to use a hair spray, just to give it a bit more hold. The reason being why I'm using a serum is because generally, the thicker the hair, the more frizzy it is, not always the case but majority of the times it is the case.
So there you go, that's blow drying with thick hair.
