VideoJug joins forces with Richard Ashforth who has worked with the biggest names in fashion including Galliano, Westwood and Hermes, to show you how to blow dry hair to create volume. Give limp hair a lift without battling the frizz that blow-drying often causes. Follow our expert with this step by step guide and you'll achieve maximum volume, with a sleeky, shiny finish.

Step 1: You will need:

Hairdryer
Large rounded hair brush
A wide toothed comb
and a heat protective serum

Step 2: Hairdryers

There are a wide variety of hair dryers available. Most will have attachments such as concentrator nozzles and diffusers. A concentrator nozzle will focus the air flow, where as a diffuser will disperse it. To create volume just use your hair dryer and a rounded brush

Step 3: Towel Drying

Before blow drying, remove as much water as possible by blotting your hair with a towel or wrapping your hair in one. Vigorously rubbing your hair will damage your cuticles.

Step 4: Combing

Use a wide toothed comb to loosen any tangles in your hair whilst it's still damp. Be gentle as wet hair stretches easily and can be damaged.

Step 5: Products

To protect your hair from excessive exposure to heat we recommend using a heat protective serum. Directions for use may vary, so always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 6: Blow drying

Hold the hair dryer in a comfortable position. Do not hold the hair dryer too close to your head, as this will damage your hair and scalp.

First use your fingers to lift the roots as you dry. Then curl sections of the hair around the brush and apply heat. Turn the brush in your fingers as you are doing this. Repeat this step until the hair is dry. You can also use the brush to style the ends of your hair.

if i had a camera I would post the proper way with a proper brush... my hair is reaching nearly my shoulders and the shortest time i can do with years and years of practice is 20 mins if i want a good result... if i have time, i can spend a lot more on getting ready... Also what about the mousse??? the hairspray??? anything like that? if your hair is dead straight like mine, you will need them, otherwise it flattens out in no time...
