How To Break A Rubik's Cube Record Underwater, In One Breath

Watch World-Champion Speedcuber Chris Dzoan try to break the one-handed underwater cubing record -- in one breath -- and learn how to break your own underwater record! Watch World-Champion Speedcuber Chris Dzoan try to break the one-handed underwater cubing record -- in one breath -- and learn how to break your own underwater record!

Step 1: Lube Your Cube

It's easy to move a cube around above water, but below, the water can make the plastic stickier, and harder to handle. Spray the cube with silicone, making sure the resistance from the water will be countered by the lube in the cube.

Step 2: Weights

In very shallow water, strap on a weight belt that's about 15% of your body weight, just heavy enough to keep you sitting comfortably at the bottom of the pool, but light enough to come up whenever you want.

Step 3: Breath Control

Meditate, breathe calmly. This will lower your pulse, so your body will need less oxygen. Make sure a friend is rolling video and breathe 3 deep breaths. On the last one, exhale fully, crunching your stomach, and then calmly take a very deep breath. Immediately sink into the pool.

Move just enough to get the job done. The less you move, the less oxygen you need.

The reason why it would take longer to solve a rubiks cube underwater is because of the difference between air and water. Water is more dense and heavy, so it is harder to turn. That is why it takes longer, Anonymous.

my rubix cube never moved so smoothly. Mine would always jam up when I tried to turn it once. What's so special about the one he's using? That's what I wanna know

Try doing it on land holding your breath. Now obscure your vision a bit and make it just slightly harder to move. Those little things make the difference in seconds when doing something for speed like this.

It takes me about 20 minutes.

why the hell would it make any difference for your time whether you're above water or under it... I can solve a rubik's cube in under a minute just fine, but I don't see why it should take longer underwater... So shouldn't the record be a lot shorter than that? I don't get it.

I'm still amazed that he can do it one handed.
