The reason for the cookie is to reward accepting the process of brushing the teeth. When training for brushing you want to end the session on a positive note, praising and rewarding acceptance of the process. Initially the goal is not to get the teeth brushed, but to get the pet to accept brushing the teeth. By the way, the treat was a dental diet made by Science Diet called T/D.

This is really helpful. I really want to take care of my cat's teeth.
