the video was correct despite previous comments made - brushing the gumline where gum meets tooth is essential and brushing just one jaw at a time is sensible. remember to brush the inside (tongue side) of the teeth and gums well too and floss once a day to avoid cavities and gum disease between teeth = a common problem !

I'm a dental hygiene student, and I agree with parts of this , but not all. There are different brushing techniques and no right one for everyone... your dental hygienist can tell you which one is right for you. Generally, I teach my patients to use a "rolling stroke" where you place the brush on an angle, then roll (this gets the plaque off your teeth, rather than just moving it around). Also, I've never heard of NOT rinsing! Fluoride should not be swallowed, and seeing as it is in most toothpastes, I'm sure doing this over time could lead to swallowing a fair amount of it. I woulnd't follow that rule!

they are known as "disclosing tablets" here in canada and i'm not actually sure if they sell them in stores here. i know you can definately get them from your dentist though... so the next time you go, ask for some. you can get them to show you exactly how to use them as well!

hygienegirl22 is wrong, it is very important not to rinse afterwards like the fil says. If you rinse straight away, you lose the protective effects of the flouride. For the same reason, I wouldnt advise using a mouthwash straight after either, wait at least 20-30mins if you want to use one. UK dentist

Rinsing your mouth out is necessary! This rids your mouth of the bacteria gathered from the toothpaste, which can be very harmful if swallowed. Also, toothpaste is not meant to be swallowed, one of most important reasons being that most of it contains flouride. Flouride is actually labeled toxic by some countries and many studies have shown dangerous effects. I only use natural toothpaste that doesn't contain flouride.

The video does not explain how long you should brush for, as the average person only brushes for 30 seconds this is quite an important piece of information.
