How To Build A Stud Wall
Need to build a stud wall in your house but don't know how? Professional kitchen fitter Yves Way shows you how with a simple step by step tutorial.
You Will Need
- impact drill
- drill gun with 4 mm drill bit
- tape measure
- pencil
- timber
- screws
Method
Lay out your timbers in a square.
Pilot the timber with the drill to stop the screws cracking the wood, then secure each corner of the 8 foot by 8 foot square, then go back around and put in a second screw at each corner.
Now set out the internal timbers at 400 centres which will give you the spacings you require to fix the plasterboard to it. Secure them with a pilot hole and screws.
Measure the centre of the height, mark it on each timber.
Measure and cut each noggin individually as they should all be tight. Secure from both sides.
You will have to drill in at an angle to secure subsequent noggins as you will not have access to both ends of them.
Lift the frame up and secure it to the wall. Use the 3-4-5 rule to get it square. This means that a measurement of 3 feet on one wall and 4 feet on the other should give a measurement of 5 feet on the diagonal if it is square.
Secure to the floor.
Then plasterboard it.
