How to Build Up Your Shoulder Muscles: This VideoJug film will teach you how to use a dumbbell shoulder press with proper form to strengthen your shoulder muscles safely and effectively.
Hi, I'm Joe from Soho Gyms and I'm a personal trainer. We have six sites across London, and provide free weights, resistance machines, cardio equipment, studios, and also classes. Today, I'll be showing you how to build up great muscle.
Today we'll be looking at how to build up the shoulder muscle. For this we'll need dumbbells, which are weights held in the individual hands, and we'll be performing a dumbbell shoulder press. What you need to do is to bring the weights up over top of the shoulders by pressing the weights up overhead extending and straightening the arms and bring them slowly back down.
You're going to make sure that as your arms come down you bring your elbows just below the shoulders, but not too low down or else you'll put the stress into the shoulders. What you're going to find is also that your triceps are going to engage, which are on the back of the arms. You're also going to find that if you're lifting heavier weights that your core muscles will engage as well, this will be your lower back and your abs.
It's important also to remember to be breathing. As you push the weights up overhead you're going to breathe out. As you lower the weights down you're going to breathe in.
By performing this exercise you'll increase the muscles around your shoulders.
