In this video, I'm going to talk to you about how to build muscle quickly. There are a few things to do to build muscle quickly. Firstly, you need to choose the right exercise.

Secondly, you need to do it with the right technique. Thirdly, you need to do it intensely. Now, let's talk about that last point - doing it intensely.

Your just doing lots of reps isn't necessarily the most intense thing you can do. I'm going to show you something from the world of bodybuilding called a compound set. What it is, is two exercises back to back working the same muscle group.

Usually, the second exercise is an easier version, and the job with the exercise is to keep blood in the muscle to help the break down of tissue, to help development basically. So I'm going to show you the bench press, which works the pectoral major, anterior deltoids, and the triceps. Then, straight afterwards when I'm tired, I'm going to go straight into decline press-ups.

Press-ups work exactly the same muscles - the pecs, anterior deltoids, and the triceps. However, they'll be knackered, so that'll be doubly exhausting for me. Now, have a look at my technique for the bench press.

Even though it's quick and intense, it's still controlled, which is very important. Bar to my chest. And up.

I'm going to do as many as I possibly can so I'm completely exhausted, ideally, with a spotter behind me. Then, straight afterwards, press-ups. Again, I do as many as I possibly can so I'm quaking - I can hardly move.

Make it really, really intense. The nice thing about this is if you do press-ups really intensely and can't do any more, you fall flat on your face. It's much safer than doing this with no spotter and you get stuck - not a good idea.

So to recap, to build muscle quickly, pick the right exercise. If you want to work your chest, the bench press is the way forward, and do it intensely so do a compound set. You'll do an exercise straight afterward working the same muscle group, such as a press-up.
