How To Bunt A Baseball Like A Pro
Quite possibly the most underrated tool in baseball is the bunt. A bunt is a strategic weapon used by the offense where the batter holds the bat and lightly taps the ball into fair territory. Follow these simple steps to success with the bunt in baseball.
-
Step 1:
-
Pivot It
-
Wait for the pitch as you normally would but as the ball comes in to the plate pivot your upper body with the bat raised at chest level.
-
Step 2:
-
Just A Pinch
-
Hold the bat firmly with your hand on the barrel for control. Pinch the barrel with your fingers and thumb, keep your thumb on top. This way your fingers are protected by the bat and allow you to absorb more of the pitch.
-
Step 3:
-
Softly First
-
Hold the bat at the top of the strike zone so that you will only have one direction to cover...down. The strike zone is the area a ball must pass through to be called a strike by an umpire. The strike zone is the width of home plate and extends from the bottom of the batter's kneecaps to the upper torso. Keep your eye on the ball. Now allow the bat to catch or receive the pitch which will give you the ability to control the placement of the ball. Your best bet to move base runners is to tap the ball down either the first or third baseline.
