So, how to buy a budgerigar? Legally, you want to be 16 or over, but ideally, you want to be over 18. There is a lot of cost, commitment, and responsibilities involved so you want to make sure that it's right for you. When buying a budgerigar, make sure you are buying from a reputable place, whether it's from a rescue home, a pet store, or a local breeder, make sure that the environment they are in is nice and clean and they've got all the essential needs.

When looking at "budgie," their eyes should be nice and glossy. There should be no discharge around the eyes, ears, or the bottom. They should be all nice and clean.

When looking for a budgie, make sure the feathers are not fluffed up - that could be a sign of illness or it could be a sign of stress. When a bird's nice and happy, you'll see it really nice and lively, it'll be eating, it'll be moving around and the feathers will be nice and smooth. The budgie's body should be standing up straight and the claws should be on the perch fine, there should be no moving to the side.

It should be in a straight line. With the nails, make sure they are nice and trimmed. They shouldn't be too long.
