How To Calculate Cubic Yards
Are you easily confused when it comes to calculating cubic yards or converting between units? Charles, from the Maxim Workshop, will help you understand the simple steps to making the calculations.
Hi, my name is Charles, and I am one of the math teachers from the Maxim Workshop. I am going to now teach you how to do some math.
I'm going to show you how to calculate cubic yards.
Now, yards is a non-SI unit, so you will find yourself converting possibly meters to yards. Now, taking a look at yards, we have one meter equivalent to 1.094 yards.
Okay, so, in order to calculate cubic yards, we are obviously going to have to find a cubic relation for this, and then find the equivalent for this. So just a simple case, imagine if we had a meter cubed, that would be a volume, obviously, and this is obviously just a length, because we have one up here, we would want to find what a meter cubed is in relation to cubic yards. What we would have to do is cube this, so stick this into brackets, 1.
094 yards, and we stick that into a cube. What we would then do is apply our cube power to both our number and to our units. It looks something like this, 1.
094 cubed and yards cubed. So, once we cube this, we have 1.309 as our answer.
And we leave the yards, the cube relation at the top, and that's pretty much how to calcuate cubic yards.
