woops... i've had 4 of em from the same family for over about a year now in the same 20gallon tank. i was told by the guy that gave em to me to use the "Bed a Beast" stuff from petsmart and to have a large heating pad that covers about half of the bottom of the tank, and to have it stuck to the bottom. also he said to keep a glass top on it to keep the humidity inside the tank... but this vid says to have a vent top... and the heat pad stuck to the side of the tank. he said that they dont need water because they would get it from eating the crickets... and i havnt changed the bedding for about 8 months now... i just noticed lil baby crickets climbing all over inside there today. i think i messed up any suggestions?

I have just brought a scorpian an going by shop advise i have got and by reading online, the heatmat at the bottom of the tank is fine(i keep snakes also and some say put that on the side but it really is personal preference) you need some ventelation but you also need to keep the tank misted up as they like it moist. you can keep them in numbers they only advise on there not to as they can eat each other an pick of a weak one but hey thats nature. They do need water so i advise to put a water bowl (shallow one) at a point near your heat matt and that will aid with misting your tank. Change the water everyday so you ensure clean water to drink. They do the extream of keeping, where as pet shops are excatally right in what they tell you(if from a good pet shop), the guys down ours handle them all the time the only to concerns with that is you may get stung and if not done right it can stress the little scorpian out. But most important thing peeps Have Fun !!!!! lmfao

i have a Emperor Scorpion that i have no problems at all when handling with care. i would say that they are more gentle and friendly that a hamster. also i had a suprise when i woke up the other morning to see about 20 or more little white babies on her back.

Please help! I think my scorpion is going to die! It's tail won't move and lies flat on the bottom of the tank. It's legs are also weak and it hasn't been interested in food. What have I done wrong? to anonymous, you can feed the young on micro crickets, i have found that they will readly take ants and woodlice'. the woodlice are slower moving so try that first. failing that the adult will help the young feed on larger prey for as long as she carries them on her back.

adambomb77, remove the infected claw and put a dab of super glue on the wound. all scorps and spiders can re-generate their body parts, it takes a long time but with each shed the limb will grow back. this is tried and tested and i have had good results using this technique, good luck.

i have found that spraying a mist of water into the tanks 3 times daily is the best way to water scorps, they will hold up their claws and catch the droplets of water which will run down the claws to the mouth parts.

I got home today and my emperor scorpion was not moving, i naturally asumed she was dead. luckily she wasnt but i think she isn't very well, shes usually quite aggressive but now she is extremely dosile and isnt moving around. she also has a baby of hers in with her and normally if i try to handle it she will attack me but she isnt doing that at the moment either. Any ideas what could be wrong and what i could do about it? Please somebody help me

Emperor Scorpions like to have a water source available at all times. I use rain water in a shallow dish and top it up every day. In addition, I have found that a temperture of 80F to be about right. Heat mats seem better than lamps as they do not dry out the air. Remember that these scorpions live mainly in forrest regions which are damp/humid. I am on my fourth hatch now with the third one giving me 34 young that survived and I have a fifth well on the way and due in the next couple of months. Although I am not an expert, I have had allot of experience breeding them and have been successful breeding the native (yellow and poisonous) scorpions in Cyprus. While I am aware of the risk's of feeding wild-caught prey to my scorpion (due to chemicals and pestecides etc), is it ok to feed them wild-caught animals if I am certain the animals have not been in contact with chemicals. My home is close to a small stream which is often teaming with small animals in and around the water. Is it ok to feed my scorpion tadpoles or small frogs that I catch from the stream? I have 4 emperor scorpions that I found in a tank outside of the trashcans in my apartments. I don't know much about them and have some questions. theres 2 big ones and two small ones and seem to get along they crawl on each other and what not. But I buy 20 crickets at a time and they go through them quickly and in the video it shows them feeding them one at a time. Is my leaving 20 crickets in there for them to eat at their leisure harmfull to them? And also this pet store sold me calcium dust to put on the crickets before the scorpions eat them. After I bought it I saw it says for reptiles. He knew it was for scorpions did he sell me the stuff just to make a sale and should I discontinue use of the calcium dust on my crickets. To the guy with the question about an Emp Scorp's sting to a cat: I know for a fact that a bee sting can kill an average-size adult cat. If you have a cat that's stung by an Emp Scorp, you better get it to the vet as fast as possible. To the person asking about mites on his/her pregnant Emp Scorp: There is no way to remove the mites without bothering or harming the Emp Scorp. Leave them be. they are just unsightly. The young of an Emp Scorp ride on the female's back until they grow large enough to take care of themselves. They will probably feed on the parasites. Like crabs, spiders, or any spider/shellfish, Emp Scorps are cannibals, so don't ever put two in the same enclosure.

You CAN handle Emp Scorps, if you practice extreme patience. Use cushioned tongs, pick it up by the tail right below the stinger, lay your hand and arm flat on a table with your fingers TOGETHER (IMPORTANT: Don't spread your fingers or lift up your arm), and put the Emp Scorp on top of your hand, with your hand facing up or down (doesn't matter). If the scorpion starts to run up your arm, grab it by the tail with the tongs before it gets to far up!!! Don't move your hand, because if you remain still, the Emp Scorp will think your hand is the ground underneath it. Scorps don't sting the ground they walk on. For God's sake don't poke your finger at it or disturb it in any way when it's on you, except to pick it up with the tongs and put it back in its enclosure. If you get stung by an Emp Scorp, pour Peroxide on the lump it will make (it will make a lump where it stung you), and then dry and gauze the lump. Keep it packed in ice, and immediately take four maximum strength Tylenol pills (500 mg each). Go see your doctor the day you get stung, no later. If you must, go to the emergency room for observation/prescription for Norco or Vicodin painkillers at least. You won't need antibiotics unless you are allergic (find out if you are before you handle the scorpion), but your lump will hurt really bad for about 24-48 hours. You'll be alright after that, and the lump will disappear in 3-5 days.
