Pretty good video, though millipedes don't really require this much care.. For instance you probably don't need a heating pad as long as your house is heated.. 20c or 70~ish f should be fine.. Feeding every other day (for my millipede seems like a waste of food, as he doesn't eat much, and he'll still eat rotten food (millipedes are detrivores or decomposers)).. My milli is pretty laid-back and hasn't needed much attention over the last year.. he once went 3 months without food or water (I thought he was dead.. turns out he was just molting.) I imagine you can skip the heating pad, thermometer, hydrometer, and cuttlebone... as long as you remember to mist the tank every few days and throw bad vegetables in there twice a week it should be fine.

This is a good video, although a bit excess cleaning, as they need a lot of their own waste to maintain the body bacteria. I suppose if a hobbiest thad them for show it cleaning the tank that often would seem more appropriate

another good way to remove mites is to put the milli in a bowl of flour. the mites loose their grip when covered in flour so they fall of. the flour is not harmful to the milli. when you put the milli back in its tank the flour will fall off.

re: mites. 'Pedes keep themselves very clean, spending a lot of time on this (at least mine do); mites do NOT help & should be removed. Sexing: the male has the 7th pair of legs from the front modified into 'gonopods', so there is a gap in the legs there, obvious next to the female. Getting a clear view is not easy as the 'pede will not co-operate - the easiest way is to put it on a glass plate, wait until it starts walking & then you can see it from underneath.

I really hate these, but this video gives me an urge to go and get...

There are a few comments saying "I hate them but now I really want one!". Please don't get one - the chances are you will get it - hate it + it will become a pain. Only get them if you are sure you want them + like them. Interesting vid.

BTW in the wild millipedes will have mites to clean without thesae mites there life span will be cut by a few years!!! you will notice the mite wjhilst handling millipedes that they will not come off the millipede. with out these mites they can get fungal infections in thier legs

hi my millipede died today is it cos i took it out into the sun for a while and it had a heat mat and i sprayed water in the tank i live in spain so its hot and dnt realy need a heat mat well thats what the man in the shop told me and ive had it of for about a week and 1 more thing when it died it had like dust in its mouth cos it gets out the tank alot and walks around and when i found it dead i picked it up and it had the floid nit and it stained my hand alot its like all over my hand is it cos its dead and its realy sore like it aches on my thumb ?
