The only thing that keeps these guys from being more popular pets is the fact they have the word "cockroach" in their name. I'd love to see them replace hermit crabs as starter pets, considering that to keep hermit crabs alive is much more work than people seem to think.

I have 2 of madagascan hissing cockroaches and work in a zoo where they are kept. I keep them in the exact same tank as that but you dont need a heat mat and a thermometer in the tank i mean maybe in the winter. I use wood chip bark for my substrate. Also mine love being handled i handle them every day and have never experienced a liquid staining my hands!

I have four hissing cockroaches (Missy, Baby, Jackle, and Marmalad...

I have four hissing cockroaches (Missy, Baby, Jackle, and Marmalade), and they much appreciate this video, because it got me to feed them a fresh slice of banana with their normal veggies. (Someone told me you should stick to veggies with cockroaches; I guess they were wrong.)

Here's my viewpoint. I would never have a pet that would cause me to get nervous if it got loose. The last thing I would want getting away and reproducing is a cockroach.
